The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe (1845) recited by Christopher Walken

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
Only this, and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow;- vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow- sorrow for the lost Lenore-
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore-
Nameless here for evermore.

(....)
Listen all "The Raven" here by the voice of Christopher Walken here.

Man held as terrorism suspect over punk song

LONDON (Reuters) - Anti-terrorism detectives escorted a man from a plane after a taxi driver had earlier become suspicious when he started singing along to a track by punk band The Clash, police said on Wednesday.

Detectives halted the London-bound flight at Durham Tees Valley Airport and Harraj Mann, 24, was taken off.

The taxi driver had become worried on the way to the airport because Mann had been singing along to The Clash's 1979 anthem "London Calling," which features the lyrics "Now war is declared -- and battle come down" while other lines warn of a "meltdown expected".

Mann told newspapers the taxi had been fitted with a music system which allowed him to plug in his MP3 player and he had been playing The Clash, Procol Harum, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles to the driver.

"He didn't like Led Zeppelin or The Clash but I don't think there was any need to tell the police," Mann told the Daily Mirror.

A Durham police spokeswoman said Mann had been released after questioning -- but had missed his flight.

"The report was made with the best of intentions and we wouldn't want to discourage people from contacting us with genuine concerns," she said.

Life like print ads are sweeping the world's most prominent cities. In Paris, Stringfellows strip club have put the pole into pole dancing by cleverly designing their print campaign to work with existing lamp posts throughout the city. The ads are sharp, sexy and almost interactive in their appearance, providing the ultimate X factor that most advertising agencies only ever dream about. by Andy G

The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

VHEMT (pronounced vehement) is a movement not an organization. It's a movement advanced by people who care about life on planet Earth. We're not just a bunch of misanthropes and anti-social, Malthusian misfits, taking morbid delight whenever disaster strikes humans. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Voluntary human extinction is the humanitarian alternative to human disasters. We'll see the theory here.

Black Farmers in America

John Ficara's "Black Farmers in America" introduces us to black farmers and their families, shows us how they work, interact, and struggle with a bureaucracy that does not treat them fairly. Farm failures have been an important American social issue for decades, and the economy has been brutal for independent farmers, white and black.
Black Farmers is failure of the American Dream. Hard work and sacrifice are not necessarily well rewarded. Ficara shows us farmers working by hand, with horses and outdated equipment.

The Long Walk

Sławomir Rawicz (1915-2004) by his account, was a Polish cavalry officer who was captured by Soviet troops during the German-Soviet invasion of Poland and was exiled to Siberia. In a book he participated in writing, he claimed that he and six others escaped and walked over 6500 km (4000 miles south, through the Gobi desert, and over the Himalayas to India). None of the others who escaped with him have ever been identified or come forward. No evidence beyond the account of Slavomir Rawicz himself exists for the journey, and he also claims to have seen Yetis.
His saga is chronicled in a ghost-written book "The Long Walk", whose veracity has been controversial since the book was published. Here the obituary on The Guardian Unlimited.

Penelope goes to war

"I solemnly swear…to devote all of my strength and to sacrifice my life to protect the land and the liberty of Israel," repeats the newly recruited soldier during her swearing-in ceremony. She enters the two-year period in which she will change from a girl to a woman, a teenager to an adult, all under a militaristic, masculine environment, and in the confines of an army that is engaged in daily war and conflict.(*)
The fragments life of these israleane girls on the pics by the american photographer Rachel Papo.

6174

The number 6174 is a really mysterious number. At first glance, it might not seem so obvious. But as we are about to see, anyone who can subtract can uncover the mystery that makes 6174 so special. Here the article of Yutaka Nishiyama.
Yutaka Nishiyama is a professor at Osaka University of Economics, Japan. After studying mathematics at the University of Kyoto he went on to work for IBM Japan for 14 years. He is interested in the mathematics that occurs in daily life, and has written seven books about the subject. The most recent one, called "The mystery of five in nature", investigates, amongst other things, why many flowers have five petals. Professor Nishiyama is currently visiting the University of Cambridge.

Slobodan Milosevic Died

Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has been found dead in the detention centre at The Hague tribunal. Milosevic suffered from high blood pressure and a heart condition. Last month the tribunal rejected a request by the former president to go to Russia for medical treatment. Natural death, poisoned, or suicide? Both the former Serbian leader's parents committed suicide, but his lawyer wants an autopsy elsewhere as Mr Milosevic feared he was being poisoned.
Milosevic, 64, had been held at the UN war crimes tribunal for genocide and other war crimes since 2001.
Here an interesting article by Jasmina Tesanovic.
